Rosebrook Inn History
The Rosebrook Inn’s property originally was once the historic Church
of the Brethren industrial school. The school opened on January 2, 1923
with an enrollment of 98 students.

In the mid 1930's the United States
Government purchased the property and used it as a resettlement camp
for some of the 600 families relocated when the Shenandoah National Park was created.

The property is now privately owned and the original schoolhouse has been
remodeled into a unique bed and breakfast with grounds that are landscaped
with perennials and annuals in constant bloom from spring through fall.

The inn’s proprietors, Mike and Cory Skeens, turned the former boarding house
into their private residence. The Greene County Historical Society
asked them to open the property for tours, and they agreed.

Everyone who visited wanted to know what our ultimate
plan was for the schoolhouse,”

“That got us thinking about a restoration, with the
goal of making the building useful." - Cory Skeens

Since the property has historical significance in the county,
we wanted to be able to share its history, and that gave us the idea
to restore the schoolhouse into a B & B.
