- Exchange Hotel and Civil War Museum - In the mid 19th century, the Exchange Hotel was a welcome stopping place for weary passengers on the Virginia Central Railway. During the Civil War, the Confederacy transformed the hotel into the Gordonsville Receiving Hospital.

- Monticello - Home of Thomas Jefferson, third U.S. President, author of the Declaration of Independence and founder of the University of Virginia. The home was designed and built by Jefferson beginning in 1768.
- Montpelier - 2700-acre 18th century home of President James Madison overlooks the Blue Ridge Mountains in historic Orange County.
- Museum of American Frontier Culture - See real farms from Germany, Northern Ireland, England and America together with period furnishings, crops, animals, foods, and a knowledgeable costumed staff to create a living illustration of day-to-day live in 17th and 18th century Europe and 19th century America.
- P. Buckley Moss Museum - Dedicated to the work of one of America's best known artists, P. Buckley Moss. Original works by the artist as well as signed and numbered offset lithographs.
- Poplar Forest - Designed and built by Thomas Jefferson as his personal retreat in 1806. The extraordinary octagonal home is now being restored.

- Walton's Mountain Museum - Learn about local author Earl Hamner Jr. ("John Boy Walton") and the television show his writings inspired, "The Waltons." The museum displays re-creations of the sets of the show, and The Museum Store features arts and crafts from regional artists.
